Freeing Yourself from Your Energy Drains, Part 1

Could energy drains be holding you back from making the positive impact you were born to create?

Consider the 6 common types of energy drains described below, and rate how big or small a part of your life from 0 – 5 each is:

1. Physical self-care challenges - overwork, lack of sleep, poor diet….

2. Addictions – to substances like drugs, foods or alcohol, shopping, people, etc.

3. Worry about taking new steps, doing things “right,” being “good enough,” the state of the world, what might happen to those close to you, what might happen to you

4. Resentment over what someone did, what someone has, what you don’t have, a difficult situation you’re in

5. Negative Self-Talk – Telling yourself you’ll never have something you want, or never accomplish something you desire to, criticizing your actions, thoughts, feelings, body, ”flaws”….

6. Unhealthy relationships – with family, friends, boss, co-workers, partner, neighbors….

Got any 0s or 1s?Celebrate!!

2s or 3s? Note particular situations that tend to trigger them. Now imagine - how good would it feel to have a new and better experience?

4s or 5s? Remind yourself how precious and valuable your energy is. Commit to taking cherishing action to decrease these drains.

Please don’t use your scores to bash yourself! There are all kinds of reasons you’re in the situation you’re in. Next week’s blog post will share the four main challenges to freeing yourself from your energy drains and what you can do about them.
