Last week’s post discussed how essential unmasking your inner saboteur is to fulfilling your goals and desires, and discussed the biggest category of four common types of masks your inner saboteur may wear and what may lurk beneath it.
If you haven’t already, fill in the blanks of the following sentence:
My big dream is to ________________ but _______________________________________________________________________.
List as many reasons as come to mind. This can be key information!
Now let’s go on to consider three more types of inner saboteur masks and what may lurk beneath them.
1. Why Pick ME?
· Lots of others already do this.
· Nobody’s doing this, so it must be too________ (weird/out there/ different/ not wanted….).
· There are already people doing this better than me.
Might this reflect your fear of being visible, rejected, or even punished?
2. Perfectionism
I still need to_______ (learn more, do more, have a better website, office, assistant…….).
Might this actually mask a desire to stay small, to stay with the familiar and comfortable out of fear of rejection, failure, or the unknown?
3. Poor Self Care
· Physically –Poor lifestyle choices re food, sleep, mood-altering substances, exercise, etc.
· Mentally – Negative self-talk
· Emotionally – Creating or entangling oneself in emotional drama
Might this be masking or distracting you from your fear of screwing up and/or success?
Though the process may feel uncomfortable, bringing our fears to light is a crucial start to the journey of bringing our unfulfilled goals and desires to fruition.
